the suspects could have been linked to an armed robbery in san jose. here's the intersection where the drive-by shooting happened and police were led on a wild chase through three east bay cities late last night. our cameras caught the chase north through 880. police tried to pull the driver other in hayward for dui and reckless driving. but he sped off through san leandro and oakland. the car spun out of control between 580 between harrison and park and police cars slammed into it to box the car in. officers say people were throwing things out on the roadway. they never found the objects but officers did find weapons inside the vehicle when it finally stopped. >> they pursued the vehicle in oakland where it crossed across the center median. the three occupants were taken into custody from there. >> reporter: police believe those three could be tied to a shooting in hayward early yesterday afternoon. a man was driving with his wife and child at tennyson and kalaroga when he was struck by a bullet and taken to the hospital. he's expected to survive. a hayward police officer tweeted around mid

are investigating san jose's third police shooting of this month. an officer fired on a suspect yesterday afternoon after police say a woman in a stolen car tried to run an officer down. they say the woman reversed the car and hit the officer as he approached the vehicle. the officer then shot her at least once. a man sitting in the passenger seat was injured but it is not clear if he was shot. both went to the hospital but police say they will recover. the for was not seriously injured. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo will have the latest in the next half hour. >> four children, one only 13, led police on a chase down highway 101 yesterday. the three teenage boys and a girl all from san jose are now accused stealing a car and running from police. sky 7 was over seen just as the chase ended in redwood city, the 14-year-old boy behind the wheel started running from police by foster city after they spotted the stolen car. >> people hoping to reduce gun violence are planning ever developments across the country today. today is the national day to demand action, a bay area group is planning to rally

memorial from santa cruz to san jose's downtown hp pavillion. now, deputy police chief steve clark says the change was necessary because of overwhelming interest by law enforcement agencies and the community. that interest was reflected today, when police officers returned to the streets. santa cruz county sheriffs deputies honored returning police patrols today. the sheriff's department and chp took over city duties, while the 94 santa cruz officers grieved for investigators, loran butch baker and elizabeth butler, killed tuesday in the line of duty. >> it's tough. the first time you jump into that patrol car or walk through investigations, you know, you go past the cubicles and the offices, i think that's tough. >> reporter: many people told us officers may see a changed community. >> people are going to be more likely to speak up and, you know, call the police when they see something that isn't right. >> reporter: but some point out this is the first time officers have ever been killed in their city. >> there's also a feeling of fear, because now it's happened. we know how it feels.

in san jose have released a sketch of a woman who may have stole a truck yesterday. the suv and the baby have been returned. they described the person of interest as latina and possibly in her late 30s or early 40s. the baby's mother told police she saw an unfamiliar woman in front of her home as she loaded things inside the jeep just before the car and baby disappeared. >>> okay -- oakland police want your help for a possible child predator. the man walked into the front of the home and tried to abduct a 9-year-old girl. the man fled in a silver honda. >>> an 8-year-old girl is recovering tonight after surgeons removed an arrow from her leg. someone shot her during a class field trip to berkeley's lawrence hall of science. campus police think the arrow was shot from the neighborhood just north of the complex. the girl was hit just after 10:00 a.m. while playing outside at a whale replica. >> it was an arrow, it was a regular arrow. not a toy, a regular arrow. it was stuck on her leg. it wasn't poking out one side it was just in and stuck in there. >> reporter: investigators are trying

're live in san jose, i'm damien tra hujillo, nbc news. >>> relief for the police who reached that little girl in the suv. he's sharing his story. officer acosta shared his reaction when he found her. >> she appeared like an 11-month-old would. she appeared distraught, kind of lost r lost, dazed. so she was happy to see us. >> officer acosta even rode with the little girl to the hospital and stayed there until she was reunited with his mother. the experience was emotional for him as well as the father of a 6-year-old and 2-year-old children. >>> a castro valley man is now dead after being shot by police last week. investigators say terrence barry called the alameda sheriff's office friday, told dispatchers he was going to shoot up the world. he also told them he had a machine gun. deputies arrived in an armored vehicle and spied barry in the bushes. at that point barry pointed what they thought was an assault rifle at them. they opened fire. after, the investigators learned it was only a homemade replica weapon. barry was hit twice and died at the hospital yesterday. >>> her family calls

in camp lejeune, north carolina. >>> back here in the southbay, one man is dead after san jose police say he tried to run over an officer with his car. it happened in an unincorporated area of san jose just before 7:00 last night, three san jose police officers tried to pull over a stolen car. the driver reportedly refused to stop and instead rammed the back of an unmarked police car. when the officer had gotten out of his car, police say the suspect tried to run him over. that's when the officer fired that deadly shot. >> just heard two quick shots, pop, pop. then that's when all the fire department and all the rest of the cops started showing up. >> the suspect died at the hospital. police say another person was in the stolen car and is being questioned as a witness. no officers were hurt. >> new detail this morning about a raceway crash that killed the 14-year-old boy from santa rosa this weekend. marcus johnson died when his 17-year-old cousin chase lost control of a sprint car and crashed right into the pit area at the raceway. the johnson family now said chase tells him the steering
